"Hi: My name is Nancy. I tried many times to be able to get this credit on my own, so that each year I could claim the disability credit. I failed each and every time.I suffer from depression/anxiety and I have a brain injury. I have an old micro hemorrhage in my left lobe area. I had a car accident in 2010 that totally changed my life. In 2009, I had a full life. I worked full time, volunteered both in Ontario and abroad in Columbia. I also was busy in the gym, church and bible studies. I loved adventure in parks, walk ways and road trips.All of that came to a big crash. I could barely to the point of eventually be able to do my job, dance, the gym, volunteering and my arts and crafts. I eventually gave up my car as I was going through stop signs and red lights. I knew logically that was wrong to do, but my reactions were very much delayed. I have micro headaches, I got extremely tired fast. I lost 25 lbs...I have gained most of it back. I had brain fog, memory lapses a lot. I could do something and a second later for get what I did or where I placed something.I lost carts, cell phone, mitts, hats and other things on the city bus. I lost my keys several times, locked myself out of the house several times and on and on goes the list.Last year I contacted the National Benefit Authority and they helped me to claim back 5 years of benefits and from now on, I will get that benefit each year on my income tax. It does cost you 30% but, you are able to gain the benefit for your life time. Disabilities that last this long, usually means there are residuals that never go away.I am just starting to get my ability back to do my arts and crafts. But I can't sit down for hours like I use to, to work on one project. In knitting and crocheting, I still have a difficult time following patterns and recipes. I plan to get better so I can have a full life again. It might not ever include full time work. But I know in time, I will be able to do other things to fill my life once again.I will never give up on trying to improve.I hope you don't either.Oh, by the way, just before I applied for this benefit, my son passed away. He passed away in 2013. It has taken a lot out of me. He was going to turn 28 the following month. There were no obvious signs. He was in hospital for 10 days. With some of the funds that I was able to qualify for I was able to set up Disability Tax Savings account and then move it into a GIC investment for the next 10 years something that I couldn't have ever done to put something away for retirement under my current situation working part-time. The additional small amount I was recently was able to claim as well has done to paying off some of my personal debt.
