Disability Benefits for Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a condition affecting the spine which leads to an abnormal curvature of the spine either to the left or to the right – with the body parts most affected being the chest and the lower back. Scoliosis generally targets children with varying levels of severity. While sometimes the children might be left untreated to allow the curvature to correct itself, at other times surgery or a back brace is required to straighten the problem.

Alas, there is no known cause of the condition; in almost 80 percent of the cases there no cause found. That said, the general consensus is that Scoliosis is usually of a genetic nature; meaning that it is inherited. Scoliosis is clearly a very difficult condition to live with as it also has the potential to lead to other medical problems as kyphosis (a hunched back) or lung and heart problems (where the heart finds it difficult to pump blood around the body). Thankfully, you need not despair since help is on its way.

The Canadian government has classified Scoliosis as a disability and it thus offers disability benefits through the Canadian Revenue Agency to those suffering form this condition. Note that these disability benefits are your right and that they have been specifically created to allow you to lead a normal life and concentrate your efforts on your treatment or your child's treatment.

Unfortunately, claiming these benefits is not easy as you would like since you would be required to thoroughly understand your condition as well the procedures involved in making a claim. But you needn’t worry we are here to make your life easier.
