What do I need to know if I have Bulimia Nervosa?

Have you been diagnosed with Bulimia nervosa? Fret not for this article will provide you with key information about this disorder so that you are able to deal with your condition with more ease and comfort.

So what is Bulimia nervosa? Well in general terms we can describe Bulimia nervosa as an eating disorder that is characterized by patterns of recurrent binge eating followed by compensatory behaviours; the most common of which are defensive vomiting (also known as purging), fasting, over exercising, and the use of laxatives and enemas.

First defined in 1979 by British psychiatrist Gerald Russell, Bulimia nervosa is a problem that is gaining strength primarily in developed countries such as U.S.A., Canada, Australia, Norway, and Japan. That said, numerous studies argue that the incidence of Bulimia nervosa (as well as many other eating disorders) is higher in social groups that idealize a slim physique. Examples of such social groups are dancers, gymnasts, cheer leaders, and models.

If you are diagnosed with Bulimia nervosa, remember that it is imperative that you do not panic. Treatment for Bulimia nervosa is widely available today and will generally take on the form of cognitive behavioural therapy, medications (such as antidepressants), or a combination of cognitive behavioural therapy and medications.
Remember that you will not be cured overnight and therefore you need to remain steadfast to the treatment plan that your doctor creates for you. While there is no denying that having a condition like Bulimia nervosa may prove to be very taxing on you and your family both emotionally and financially, you would be happy to hear that these burdens could be reduced by making use of various disability benefits offered by the Canadian government.

These benefits come in numerous forms and are available for a wide variety of mental and physical disabilities. From grants to the Disability Tax Credit, the Canadian government has vowed to ensure that there will be no difference in the living standards of people with disabilities and people without disabilities.

Sounds good on paper doesn’t it? Unfortunately, the reality remains a different matter as numerous people who can avail disability benefits are seen to shy away from their rights. This is because they either lack the expertise and knowledge to go and get the rewards or they find the process of getting the benefits as being too cumbersome.

It is for these reasons then that we have created the National Benefit Authority (NBA). We at the NBA provide the expert guidance that will make your job a whole lot easier. Backed by a stunning 99 percent success ratio, we promise to strive towards helping you get your due share of money from the government so that your days are filled with joy instead of despair.
