Agoraphobia is a Disability

As the heading of this article shouts, the common anxiety disorder agoraphobia is considered a disability and can thus allow you to avail numerous disability benefits from the government. Before we get into information about these benefits, allow yourself to be walked through the nature of this mental condition first.

Traditionally, agoraphobia was thought to be a condition whereby the victim would greatly fear public and open places. As knowledge about this mental illness has increased, we can now state that agoraphobia is a condition that is complicated by the development of panic attacks such that the person suffering from agoraphobia fears public places for he or she fears having a panic attack in such a situation. Thus, it is common for people suffering from agoraphobia to avoid large, open spaces such as shopping malls or airports. As the condition of the sufferer worsens, the damage to his or her life increases exponentially as normal functioning is hindered more and more.

This though doesn’t need to be the case if you are diagnosed with agoraphobia since professional help, both in the form of therapy and medication, can greatly help you counter your condition and keep your fear and anxiety in check. That said, you would be happy to note that your condition does not necessarily mean that you will be doomed to misery.

In fact, the Canadian government provides a whole host of benefits for people suffering from agoraphobia and other disabilities. These benefits come in numerous forms and can range from grants to Disability Tax Credits. Alas, research shows that people with disabilities at times shy away from attaining these benefits as they find the whole procedure of collecting their deserved benefits too tiring or too cumbersome.

You though should avoid falling into this mindset as these benefits are your right and are created so that people in your situation can have a normal standard of living. Now it’s only natural for you to wonder how you yourself are going to go about all the formalities associated with attaining the benefits provided by the government.

But guess what! We at the National Benefit Authority (NBA) pledge to make your job a whole lot easier by providing you the expert guidance you need at every step of the process. We at the NBA are dedicated to making sure that people with disabilities attain their rights. Therefore, our counsel on various matters pertaining to disability benefits will definitely do wonders for you.
