What Should I do if My Child is diagnosed with ADHD Primarily Inattentive?

ADHD Primarily Inattentive is one of the three subtypes of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Commonly referred to as simply Attention Deficit Disorder or ADD, ADHD Primarily Inattentive is quite different from the other two types of ADHD as ADHD Primarily Inattentive is primarily characterized by inattention, disorganization, procrastination, forgetfulness, and lethargy, as opposed to symptoms of hyperactivity which are common to the other subtypes.

Generally speaking, children with ADHD Primarily Inattentive are at a greater risk of delayed diagnosis since the lack of hyperactivity symptoms make it very difficult to identify the attention deficit symptoms. Hence, such children are more likely to do poorly in school as their school tenure is usually marked by academic failures which both parents and teachers alike may write off as inefficiency on the child’s part to take a proactive approach in learning.

As a result, it is common for such children to be perpetually bombarded by negative feedback from their elders. So much so that children suffering from ADHD Primarily Inattentive are known to have very low self esteem which in turn may result in the advent of one anxiety disorder or another later on in life.

Thus, as a parent, it is imperative that you keep a close eye on your child’s behavior and mannerisms. If you begin to notice signs of ADD, you should try and consult a medial professional who is well versed on the subject. Do not get into the habit of scolding your child as you need to always remember that the stick approach won’t solve the problem.

If you fear that the financial and emotional cost of an ADHD Primarily Inattentive diagnosis may be too heavy a burden to shoulder, you would then be happy to hear that the Canadian government offers a wide variety of disability benefits to allow you to get through the hurdles the diagnosis of the disability may present. These benefits are of numerous types and some will be more pertinent to you that others.

Hence, it will be only natural for you to wonder what benefits you can avail for the ADHD Primarily Inattentive diagnosis. While there is a lot of information available on these benefits, many people suffering from disabilities are not able to avail their respective disability benefits due to the lack of proper guidance and expertise at the different stages of the process.

Do not panic though after reading the last sentence as the National Benefit Authority, or NBA, is here to hold your hand and help you through any and all hurdles that may arise. We offer expert advice on a whole host of disability benefit issues. Our aim is to do all the hard work so that you get the disability benefits you deserve.
